To the Octopod Peso!

OctonautsIn the 1980’s I must have been on the Corkscrew 50 times as a teenager; so taking my children to Alton Towers and seeing a part of that very same ride as a museum piece at the entrance gates made me feel old.
Captaon Barnacles
We’d been invited to have a go on the new Octonauts roller-coaster and my 8 year old was very excited, my 12 year old less so, he wanted to go on Air and Rita (yikes).

My 8 year has a huge soft spot for Captain Barnacles from Octonauts & was delighted to meet him whilst trying out the new Octonauts rollercoaster, complete with a mist squirting whale & sea bubbles! His verdict? ‘Cute & awesome’  It’s gentle and exciting, even the youngest children will love to have a go.

If you’ve not been to Alton Towers or CBeebiesland I urge you to go, it’s magical and beautiful, fully capturing the joy and delights of CBeebies.  My boys had just the best day; shushhhh, don’t tell anyone but my 12 year old love Octonauts too.  We even managed to lose the car key in the park but a member of staff had found it and handed it in – so relieved & thankful!

So go explore, rescue and protect (and keep your car keys somewhere safe).

One to One Midwives

One to One Midwives provide a community based midwifery service with continuity and choice at the heart of everything they do.  When a woman first accesses One to One she is allocated a named midwife who will be the lead caregiver throughout her pregnancy, birth (if she chooses a homebirth) and for 6 weeks of postnatal care.  The One to One midwife will be available over 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and when she is on holiday her ‘buddy’ will be available instead.  Care takes place in the women’s homes at times to suit their needs and the vast majority of visits take place in the evening or at weekends to ensure that partners are also active participants in the care.  There are no limits to the number of visits and the woman and midwife will agree how often the visits should take place to meet the individual needs of the family, not just based around routine or traditional care models.

One to One Midwives are available across Cheshire and offer a variety of FREE services including; pregnancy testing, scanning, free parent education and breastfeeding classes, hypnobirthing courses and information sessions aimed at women and their families directly within the heart of their local community.

Rebecca Stephens, One to One Midwife say’s “The job satisfaction is tremendous. I love being able to provide the continuity of care that every woman should have, and knowing that I have made a real difference to their experience of childbirth”

One to One have now expanded their community based service by opening a Pregnancy Advice Centre in Crewe Town Centre and are due to open another in Warrington in February. The Pregnancy Advice Centres will provide a one-stop venue for everything a woman and her family need during pregnancy and once she has had her baby. Situated in the town centres, the Pregnancy Advice Centres will provide maternity care that is more accessible and convenient to women, with opening hours to fit around people’s busy lives.

Joanne Parkington, Founder and Chief Executive of One to One Midwives, said: “By actively giving women greater choice, the Government will not only be relieving some of the enormous stress on hospital maternity services, it will also be giving women the right to choose the setting in which they give birth. We are thrilled to be expanding the community care we offer by opening Pregnancy Advice Centres directly in the heart of local communities.”

One to One Midwives are an NHS approved provider of maternity services. They have just seen the birth of its 3,000th baby since starting in 2011 in the North West of England. More than 30 per cent of babies delivered by One to One during the past three years have been home births.

Many women have shared their amazing birth stories and you can view them all on the One to One website at:
