As a Mum of two boys being asked to review a new LEGO book is a total no brainer, despite the many pieces of LEGO I have trodden on over the years which is not painful in any way at all! My house is full of LEGO, 14 years worth of LEGO in boxes, models and many other forms throughout the house, I even have bits of LEGO in my handbag! It fascinates me that from little plastic bricks a deluge of creativity and making can be unleashed by anyone who gets their hands on it. This new book from DK (Dorling Kindersley) called LEGO Awesome Ideas arrived one Friday night and it had barely been our of the envelope before my 8-year-old got cracking. The sub-title is WHAT WILL YOU BUILD? The book is stuffed full of great ideas and step by step instructions to build everything from a micro-space fleet to a castle and a sweets gallery, all from bits of LEGO you probably have in your home already. The ready-made sets are great and as we can see we have made many of them over the years, but what this book does inspires you to go gather all those lonely unused bit and make something brilliant. My 8-year-old has a whole scheme of building on his desk in his room which is going to be a swamp with trampolines and a gold mine with sweets, my 13-year-old got in on the act also making a ‘homework automatic doing machine’ (here’s hoping he invest the same thing for housework). It’s a great book for ideas, easy to read and choc full of endless ideas which will create yet more endless ideas for your children. I like the cute cartoon bits and speech bubbles from the characters, very cute and funny. And less LEGO on the floor for me to stand on is a good thing in my book! This is a little video which illustrates what took place in our house https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1fq3hz_MLYo&feature=youtu.be
